Dr. Ockert Van Schalkwyk (also known as 'Dr. Van') is an International Optometrist who qualified in 4 countries. He has a widespread experience in the field of Eye Care. Over thirty-five years private practice, locums and hospital experience. Worked in ophthalmology academic/training hospitals, corporate as well as small business environment.

Originally qualified as an Optometrist in South Africa where he graduated from the University of Johannesburg. In 1993 he studied in London, England where he became a UK Optometrist with a M.C. Optom. In 1996 he graduated from New England College of Optometry (Boston, MA) in Advance Studies in Eye Disease.

He then qualified as an Australian Optometrist and practiced as a locum Optometrist across Australia. In 2006 wrote the Canadian Optometrists exams at the University of Waterloo, On and qualified as a Canadian Optometrist. Then practices for 2 years in Newfoundland before coming to South Western Ontario.

Received the following major Optical, Contact Lens and Pharmaceutical Awards:

1994- Rodenstock competition - Best Lens design. A Visit to manufacturing plants of Rodenstock, plus tour of Germany.

1992-Runner up of Luxottica competition - Cash Prize

1990-Safilo Competition - Tour of Italy, plus a visit to their facilities.

1989-Hydron Contact Lenses & Allergan Pharmaceutical Competition. Honorary guests at the second International Eastern Contact Lens Conference in Singapore, plus a tour of Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan and Mauritius.
